Product Review: Yew + Narra

I love small-batch skincare. It feels special, like it was custom made for you.

Instagram, of course, led me to Yew + Narra. Specifically this picture.

I love grapefruit skincare. Not fake, sweet grapefruit but bitter, citrus-forward grapefruit. After seeing this collection I started digging a little deeper and realized their products are all natural, all mixed fresh and all served up in glass jars. Love, love, love. They also recently introduced a “minis” program so you can travel with your Y+N goods without issue. Added bonus? Their entire line is extremely affordable.

I was lucky enough to receive a care package from Yew + Narra of some of their best sellers. After spending some time working with the line, here are my thoughts:

Lavender Clay Facial Mask

Benefits: Purple Brazilian Clay base is full of magnesium that encourages cellular turnover while Argan and Avocado oils moisturize and Evening Primrose Extract helps soothe irritation and can lighten dark spots.

My Thoughts: I don’t really like masks. They either feel slimy or tight. Two things I don’t want to feel on my face. And sheet masks are not my thing. Even though I am aware of the benefits of masking I all too often neglect this step of my skincare routine. The first thing I noticed was the consistency. This mask is so smooth. And it was more like a rich cream than a gooey mask. The recommendation is to leave on for 15 minutes – I left it on through a bath and a glass of wine and longer. My skin felt clean and supple but not stripped as is normal with clay masks. And it smells good. This was my favorite o the bunch. Sold.

Himalayan Rose Body Scrub

Benefits: Minimal ingredients. Sugar and Himalayan Sea Salt exfoliate without excessive abrasiveness and the Rose Essential Oil replenishes moisture in the skin.

My Thoughts: Exfoliants are my favorite skincare item. I typically use a more harsh product and end up moisturizing afterwards. With this I didn’t have to do so. And I don’t typically enjoy rose fragrances but this was light and not overpowering – actually enjoyable. This also comes in Grapefruit and Lime+Coco. Very nice.

Black Lava Hawaiian Bath Salts

Benefits: Coconut Shell Charcoal removes skin impurities while Orange Essential Oil acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic. Perfect for a post-workout soak.

My Thoughts: It’s no secret that black is my favorite color. I also love taking baths. This was pretty much made for me. And smells great. Buy this now.

Matcha Green Tea Body Butter

Benefits: Shea Butter is a super skin saver alongside Coconut Oil which acts as a natural anti-bacterial. Also, Matcha has been known to have anti-inflammatory properties and can help even skin tone.

My Thoughts: This smells light, fresh and excellent for summer. It completely eliminated my dry knees and heels. I would use this sparingly as it is very rich – and be sure to wash your hands before doing your hair to prevent oil transfer.

Wilde Rosewater Face Mist

Benefits: Aloe and Witch Hazel tone while Rose Water helps maintain the skin’s pH balance.

My Thoughts: Rose Water always made me think of my grandmother – but not amymore. I love this. It can be used as a toner after washing your face as well as to refresh mid-day. Keep it in the fridge for a summer pick me up.

The Verdict: With quality ingredients and mild and all-natural fragrances, this is a great new line to watch. I will be repurchasing for myself as well as making rad gift baskets for all of my friends as their entire product lineup is inexpensive yet effective, luxurious and impressive.

Bonus: Subscribe to their email list and receive 50% off of your first order. Yes, please.

Bonus Bonus: Reuse the glass jars as succulent planers!
