Glossier – My First Product Review
“Skin First. Makeup Second.”
This is Glossier’s tag line and basically every smart, beauty-focused girls, mantra. I have seen the Instagram ads and emails and friend-of-a-friend posting about this sleek, simplistic skincare line for months now. I finally decided to give it a try after reading about Boy Brow for the 1,574.263 time.
Having tried many, many(manymanymany) high end (high end = expensive) skincare lines, I liked what I read and I liked the low price point even more.
Ordered the basics – Boy Brow(duh) in Black, Super Pure Serum and Mega Green Galaxy Pack mask.
The.Boy.Brow.Is.Magic. Naturally a dirty-blonde, filling in my brows to match my black hair without looking witchy can be a challenge. This stuff filled them softly, added density to my sparse spots and kept them in place through hot yoga and kickboxing. Imagine a creamy, tinted pomade. Obsessed. Please and thank you.
On to Super Pure Serum. The Glossier website says “96% of people saw a reduction in redness within one week or less” and “79% said their blemishes were visibly less noticeable”. Sure, Glossier…
Super Pure kind of feels like water so I was unsure I’d see much of anything from this but liked the water-gel feeling (and the low price tag for a serum) so I stuck with it.
Two weeks in and – shame on the skeptic – my skin seems clearer and smoother. The active ingredients are Niacinamide(Vitamin B3) and Zinc. I use it after I clean my face in the evening and I like the tiny flush I feel for a moment followed by the smooth, taught feeling afterwards. The website warns not to use this more than once a day. I am definitely going to try the other two “Supers” – Super Bounce(dry skin) and Super Glow(dull skin) ASAP. Stay tuned.
Lastly, an embarrassing confession. I’ve been in beauty for over a decade and I HATE face masks. Gooey, cold, wet, itchy. Gross. I love the moisture they provide and I know they are totally awesome for your skin but that itchy feeling on your nose and the crunchy feeling when they dry – just all of it. Nope. I decided I need to find one I love since my thirties seem to be here to stay. I purchased the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack – simply because the headline said “For when you’re feeling dirty” and “Think of this as a juice cleanse for your face.” The base is White Kaolin Clay which is gentle and does not get that cracking, crunching feeling upon drying. Bitter Orange Peel exfoliates and a smorgasbord of phytonutrients and antioxidants detoxify and protect as well as aloe and avocado to calm the skin. I love this mask. Love it. It smelled clean and did not dry up. It was simply awesome and my skin felt moisturized and fresh. I have used it twice, once a week for two weeks, and plan on making this a weekly ritual. (Another embarrassing secret – I used to use face masks as an excuse to drink wine in the bathtub alone. Now you know.).
Finding the right skincare routine for you is SO important. The younger you start the better, yet all of the options can be intimidating. Choose quality products and figure out what your skin responds too. Start with mild, natural formulations and go from there. And – another positive – Glossier products are:
- Allergy Tested
- Dermatologist Tested
- Fragrance Free
- Paraben Free
- Cruelty Free
- Safe for sensitive skin
Who has tried Glossier’s goods? What do you think?
Excellent, informative review of Glossier products. You have convinced me to try at the Boy Brow for sure, and maybe a serum. Like you, I hate masks, but my much older skin might thank me if I take the plunge!
